Andrea is the Advanced Practice Nurse, Stroke. Key responsibilities are to provide leadership in the implementation of an acute care and prevention program for stroke patients at The Ottawa Hospital. She has been involved in the development and implementation of an acute stroke protocol, admission orders, stroke assessment tool, clinical pathway, stroke educational materials and clinical practice guidelines. She is actively involved in teaching nurses about stroke care in regional stroke workshops, in-service education, as well as an invited speaker at local conferences.
She received a Bachelor’s of Nursing from the University of Southern Maine, Portland; a Master’s in Nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and a Master’s in Epidemiology from the University of Ottawa. She has a Joint Appointment with the School of Nursing, University of Ottawa.
She is an active member of the Canadian Association of Neuroscience Nurse, Ottawa Chapter and the Chairperson for the Research Committee. Her research interests include knowledge translation of clinical practice guidelines. She has received funding from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for a knowledge translation study of evidenced based recommendations for continence management of stroke patients in acute and rehabilitation settings.
Kelly Lumley-Leger, RN, MEd
Regional Stroke Education Coordinator

Kelly is the Regional Education Coordinator for the Champlain Regional Stroke Program. She is responsible for supporting the dissemination and implementation of best practices across the stroke continuum. Key responsibilities include: a) assessing interprofessional, stroke-related learning needs; b) planning, implementing and evaluating strategies to address stroke-related learning needs; and, c) contributing the development of provincial stroke education programs. Kelly has been involved in the development and delivery of stroke education to clinicians and has collaborated with colleges and universities in the Champlain region to increase awareness of best practice in stroke care.
Kelly completed a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Queen’s University and a Masters of Education degree at Brock University.
Toba Miller, RN, MScN, MHA, GNC(C)
Advanced Practice Nurse, Rehabilitation

Toba Miller is the Advanced Practice Nurse, Rehabilitation, at the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre. She received a Master’s in Nursing and Master’s in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa. Toba has a broad range of expertise in nursing clinical practice, education, research and administration. She has been an Advanced Practice Nurse for six years and at the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre for the past two years. Her clinical and research interests are in the areas of skin, wound and continence care. Currently, she is the co- investigator on the following research projects:
1. Continence Best Practice Guidelines for Stroke Survivors;
2. Diabetic Foot Complications; and,
3. Pressure Ulcer Prevalence for Hospitalized Patients.
She is an active member of the Ontario Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and other professional organizations.
Susan Draper, RN, MScN
Advanced Practice Nurse
SCO Health Service
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Susan is the Advanced Practice Nurse for the Rehabilitation Program at SCO providing active leadership throughout the organization to enhance and improve the quality of nursing care. She has been involved in implementation of clinical practice guidelines for the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, monitoring the prevalence of pressure ulcers in acute care, and presenting educational workshops on wound care.
Susan has a varied clinical experience ranging from orthopedics, medicine, and rehabilitation in various positions such as clinical nurse educator, nursing quality improvement coordinator, and clinical nurse manager. Her clinical and research interests are in the areas of wound care, implementation of best practice guidelines, and promotion of healthy workplaces.
